This article is a summary or compendium of relevant information regarding the disappearance or end of life of Joomla 2.5. It is imperative to migrate immediately to the stable version 3.4.1

Here I present a summary of the most important points on this topic, which is currently scattered information on the pages of Joomla. At the end of the article, I quote the offcial sources.

Fact No 1

Since December 2014, the Joomla 2.5 version reached its “end of life” and since then there have been no updates beyond 2.5.28 (1).

Fact No 2

On June 30th, 2015 Joomla 2.5 extensions will be delisted from the official directory of extensions (2). This is according to the plan from mid-2011 when the Production Leadership Team (PLT) announced the new Joomla release cycle. (3)

Migrating from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 3.x and complex sites

This tutorial will help you to migrate from Joomla 1.5 versions, and also serves as a reference for 2.5 complex migrate sites:

Conclusions:

  • This is a very good time to stop using version 2.5 and upgrade to version 3.4.1, which is the current version today, fully supported and with a lifespan of two years, ie: until 2017 (4).
  • The Joomla 3 version already has a roadmap to version 3.11 with tentative release dates. These updates will not require more than simple migration updates with a few clicks (5).
  • It is recommended to keep up with this link which contains more information about the stable Joomla versions: https://docs.joomla.org/Release_and_support_cycle/es
  • Last but not least, do not forget two very valuable resources:
